Delhi is located in the state of Punjab in northern India. The city is roughly 240 m (780 ft) above sea level.

Delhi has a semi-arid climate with hot, long summers and cooler winters. Summertime temperatures often exceed 40 °C (104 °F). The city experiences heavy rains during the monsoon season in July and August.

Delhi is India's 2nd largest economic center after Mumbia. In recent years, it has become a hub of India's outsourcing and information technology industries. Economic success has led to a rapid rise in wealth with Delhi now having per capita income that is 2.5 times the national average.

About 82% of the population is Hindu and about 12% are Muslims. Sikhs, Jains, and Christians populations are also sizable. Major languages spoken in Delhi are Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, and English.
